Women Composer YouTube Database Project Looking for Female Composers and Songwriters The Women Composer YouTube Database is a project designed to make the works of prominent women in music known to a broader base by creating long playlists of works by select female composers and songwritings in classical music, electronica, and film. This is a project begun by award-winning composer Sabrina Pena Young.   The hope is that as more and more of these Youtube Playlists of women composers are made available, the playlists will be shared and other musicians will take the time to create more female composer playlists. This project was begun in August 2017. NEW Music Book - From Kitchen to Carnegie Hall : Ethel Stark and the Montreal Women's Symphony Orchestra   Maria Noriega Rachwa, a teacher and musicologist, has written a remarkable new book,  From Kitchen to Carnegie Hall: Ethel Stark and the Montreal Women's Symphony Orchestra  (2015:Second Story Press, Toronto ) about the first Canadian orchestra ever to perform in Carnegie Hal, in 1947l.  And one of its members also became the first Canadian black women to play a symphony in Carnegie Hall.   Formed in 1940, the orchestra survived for almost thirty years. The McKenzie River Gathering Foundation recognizes that women artists have traditionally been underfunded. MRG particularly encourages artists to apply who have been further marginalized due to race, sexual orientation, or gender identity. While the Lilla Jewel Award is not based on financial need, the intent is to support a woman artist who lacks traditional access to funding. The award recipient is chosen by a panel of peers.
