Music Business Tip: How To Get A Music Manager & Do You Need One?

Image
Music Business Tip: Producers, do you really need a manager? Things every artist, band and producer should know and consider before hiring one

The most common misconception is that if you have a music manager life will be easier and you'll make more money.

Sometimes it works out that way and other times it doesn't. One thing you have to remember is that a manager has to make money as well.

Some of you are thinking, "that's fine, make it happen", but understand that in order for a manager to be paid, they must take a percentage of what you're making per project.

This means the manager is going to have one of two things

1. Take a % from what you're charging your current clients. This could be bad because if you don't make a lot, then the manager isn't making enough and what was good pay for you is now reduced

Thing about it like this. If you charge $200 per track (or whatever) and the manager steps in and handles the communications, contracts etc (making…

How to Compose a Song - Piano Lessons

Image
Take some piano lessons from Scott Houston “The Piano Guy.” In this video, Scott and his guest, five-time Grammy Award nominee David Benoit, discuss the thought process behind composing music. David Benoit uses his original song, Kei's Song, as an example.

Scott and David just want to help you to teach yourself piano skills to get you having some fun at a piano as quickly as possible.

In the video David shares some great tips for
composing songs. He shares that typically, he starts composing a new song with his chord selection. Then often he moves to creating the bridge of the song which was the case when he was composing “Kei.” There is a lot of trial and error involved.

When asked where Benoit gets his inspiration from, he confided that composing for him is a balance between piano seat time and time away from the piano. Being away from the piano offers time to reflect and be creative and imaginative. Some of David’s most creative ideas have come while he was on one of his walks. …

Jennifer Higdon: Women Composer Youtube Database Project - Sabrina Pena ...

Image
The Women Composer YouTube Database is a project designed to make the works of prominent women in music known to a broader base by creating long playlists of works by select female composers and songwritings in classical music, electronica, and film. This is a project begun by award-winning composer Sabrina Pena Young.

The hope is that as more and more of these Youtube Playlists of women composers are made available, the playlists will be shared and other musicians will take the time to create more female composer playlists.

This project was begun in August 2017. The goal is to eventually have 100 + separate playlists highlighting the works of 100+ female composers.

If you are interested in having a playlist made of your work or a prominent female composer as part of this project, please contact Sabrina Pena Young directly through her facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/newmusiccomposer/

Krzysztof Penderecki International Composers' Competition ARBORETUM

Image
Krzysztof Penderecki International Composers' Competition ARBORETUMRadom City can be proud of its centuries-old music tradition. The most distinguished Polish composer of the Middle Ages, Nicholas of Radom, created his music in this royal city. It emphasises the standing and the importance of the centre, also on the cultural map of the Jagiellonian country. The people of Radom have always felt a strong need to create and exist in a cultural field. It is proved by organisation of the International Composers’ Competition - Certamen Compositorum Internationale ARBORETUM and the commitment of one of the most distinguished composers of our times, Krzysztof Penderecki. The Competition originated from the need to experience art, felt both by creators and the public. The regulations of the competition clearly state that Professor Krzysztof Penderecki is the person who is responsible to decide which of the composers has created a work deserving special recognition. Six compositions will be…

"Libertaria: Genesis is dystopian, and good at it, and that needs further examination." - J. Roseman, escapepod.org

“One of my favorite things about this story is its odd apocalyptic tone and strong sci-fi/fantasy foundation. The dark quality that comes with it is the cherry on top.” –FanboysAnonymous.com on Libertaria: The Virtual Opera

WHAT FANS ARE SAYING ABOUT THE LIBERTARIA CHRONICLES

"Between the book, virtual opera, soundtrack, and all the extras, Young has created a convincing world...a dark dystopian future for you to get lost in. The characters are complex, flawed, and human, and you are never sure what they will do next. Looking forward to the next book in the series!"

"This book is dystopia squared. It's not and shouldn't be a quick read. It's complex and jumps around a lot. which is what good dystopia is supposed to be. To me, Libertaria is like a code…
