Music Marketing: Strategy [7 Steps] (Music Business Lesson MM-001)

In this lesson James Taylor of the Music Business Institute goes through the 7 steps of successful music marketing. It's both a blueprint and a roadmap that you can also use to create the kind of music career you desire. It's also deceptively simple although the implementation will require that you learn some step-by-step techniques and tactics.  1. Build Your Fan Lists What is the one thing that all successful artists have in common - LISTS. Lists are the lifeblood of your business as a musician and without them it's almost impossible to make a living from your craft.  2. Develop Relationships With Fans The relationship with your lists will sustain you emotionally, creatively and financially over many, many years if you do it right.  However if you disrespect your lists, speak down to them, or treat them as just a source of income then you are likely to have a very short career in music indeed. 3. Learn What Fans Want There exists two main schools (or T...

10 Money-Saving Tips for Musicians: Create Music Without Breaking the Bank

10 Money-Saving Tips for Musicians: Create Music Without Breaking the Bank  1. Work from a home studio . Snapshot of my home studio. You can literally save thousands by investing in a basic home studio. You can start with just a quiet room (or a room padded with rugs to insulate), a computer, and some basic software. You will have to look into what you need. Do you mostly mix beats with some sampled vocals? Then a PC and a good mic is probably all you need. Do you work with video and music? Then you will need a faster computer and software that allows for scoring to music. Do you have a live band? Then look into a home studio set up where the recording equipment and the band are separated by a room (or dividers, at least). While it is ideal to be able to record with top-notch engineers in a sweet acoustic space, most folks do not have the cash to back it. Instead of letting your project sit and get stale, get your hands dirty and learn how to record from home. Then release...
