Classical Music Radio Broadcast Request Promotes Women Composers - Composer Amy Beach

Classical Music Radio Broadcast Request Promotes Women Composers - Composer Amy Beach The I nternational Alliance for Women in Music and other musical advocacy groups encourage classical music lovers to request the music of notable women in music. Each month different composers are chosen.  More information below:  To participate in promoting the broadcast of women's compositions, please telephone or e-mail local and/or Internet radio stations during Aug. 5-11, 2018, requesting that they play music composed by AMY BEACH. As usual, the selection, which is different every week, has been made by Ursula Rempel. The selections, she explains, "are based on a combination of factors: availability of CDs, geography/nationality, accessibility/appeal of the music for general audiences, and a concern to feature both historical and contemporary women composers."  Feel free to copy and modify this to suit yourselves:  Ladies and Gentlemen:  Would you please...

Women Composer YouTube Database Project Looking for Female Composers and Songwriters

Women Composer YouTube Database Project Looking for Female Composers and Songwriters The Women Composer YouTube Database is a project designed to make the works of prominent women in music known to a broader base by creating long playlists of works by select female composers and songwritings in classical music, electronica, and film. This is a project begun by award-winning composer Sabrina Pena Young.   The hope is that as more and more of these Youtube Playlists of women composers are made available, the playlists will be shared and other musicians will take the time to create more female composer playlists. This project was begun in August 2017. The goal is to eventually have 100 + separate playlists highlighting the works of 100+ female composers.   If you are interested in having a playlist made of your work or a prominent female composer as part of this project, please contact Sabrina Pena Young directly through her facebook page: https://www.facebook.com...

The Undeniable Truth About Women Composers That No One is Telling You

The Undeniable Truth About Women Composers That No One is Telling You As an undergraduate music major, I did not find it unusual that after four exhausting semesters of music history, I had only studied a handful of talented women involved in composition. The usual names popped up - Clara Schumann , Fanny Mendelssohn, and Amy Beach. Of these women, only one, Amy Beach, was not associated with a famous male composer. After graduate studies in music, I realized the importance of studying women in music, notably contemporary living composers. I had been fortunate to be mentored by Clare Shore , Kristine Burns, and Pauline Oliveros. For more in-depth studies on women in western music, I suggest Burns' Women and Music in the US Since 1900: An Encyclopedia (Greenwood Press, 2002), Dr. Elizabeth Hinkle-Turner's Crossing the Line: Women Composers and Music Technology in the United States , the Kaprova Society's Women Composer Database, and the International Alliance for Wome...
