DescriptionCircuit Bridges and Buffalo State University are collaborating to present music by composers from New York (both upstate and down). J. Tomás Henriques, composer and researcher developing new electronic instruments, and Sabrina Pena Young, experimental composer and curator, are working together to create a program centered around Buffalo, New York, that will complement Circuit Bridges' New York City area composers. This concert will feature a performance by Digital Music Ensemble (DME), a performing group that uniquely explores technology and creativity. It provides students with the opportunity to play state-of-the art electronic music instruments and use common off-the-shelf tech tools, such as smart-phones, iPads and game controllers, as meaningful input devices to be used musically. The repertoire of the ensemble is wide in its scope covering a variety of styles and approaches to exploring music and sound: from early electronic analog works to jazz-fusion and avant-garde improvisatory pieces. The ensemble fosters students' creative ideas, both through improvisation and composition, and features an interdisciplinary approach to the performance of electronic music, allowing students to learn and discuss the history, theory, and aesthetics of electronic music.

Machinima Magic using Moviestorm, Final Cut, and Photoshop

For those who have been wondering about the hiatus here at the New Music Resource, wonder no more! The past six months I have been working on a sci-fi machinima musical Libertaria: The Virtual Opera . Created almost entirely in the machinima software platform Moviestorm and scored with a catchy combo of electronic music, film scores, and dramatic vocals, Libertaria has been an incredible collaborative project. Moviestorm has been an excellent and inexpensive way to create an entire epic sci-fi tale for a minimal amount of resources. Almost three years ago I started using Moviestorm for a variety of video projects, and then decided to make an entire feature length musical using only machinima. The project proved challenging, involved a couple of dozen singers, animators, and other artistic professionals volunteering their talent and resources to create an incredible feature.
