Make Your Animated Film on the Cheap Using Machinima A few years ago I wanted to make an exciting epic sci-fi animated film, but I didn't have any money and I didn't have a crew, cast, or access to a studio or even high end software. So I decided to go an unconventional route: machinima. Why Machinima? Machinima is a video game based animation style in which the animator (or machinimator ) essentially directs their characters in a premade computer generated environment. This is different than traditional animation that is created cel by cel or computer animation where the animator has to animate and design every single step, breath, and hair follicle of their characters.  Think of it as the difference between claymation (where you have to create the character and then move its foot, take a picture, move its foot again, take a picture, etc.) and a live action film where the character runs across the stage and the cameraperson follows the actor as he runs.  One of the ...

Musician Encourages Music Piracy of Her Opera Dear Music Pirate, Hello, starving artist here. I just finished this great sci-fi comic book animated Libertaria: The Virtual Opera .   It took the cast a couple of years, 1000 recordings, and just tons of work to finish it, and now I want you to steal it.  Yep, you heard me, just pirate it away. Aaargh.   You see, when I made Libertaria, I knew that I wanted it to be something special, something that didn't require $200 and a tux for nosebleed seats. I mean, really, it's been way too long that great music has required a six figure job to enjoy. I recently gave a lecture at Buffalo State about the production process involved with my animated film Libertaria: The Virtual Opera . As I chatted on about software tools, social media sites, and Kickstarter , I realized that it was time to compile a list for musicians, animators, and other media artist. Recently I joined the throngs of indie filmmaker's with my first feature length film Libertaria: The Virtual Opera , a cutting edge animated sci-fi opera that delves into futuristic apocalypse, genetics, and complex family relationships and is complete with singing death scenes as all good operas are!  So now that I have my own indie film, what do I do?  There are a few options: Send out to film festivals, hope for distribution, scope out theaters for screenings, self distribute, sell the film on a street corner.  The results are endless.
